Me and the back of the book are having problems.
The question is Solve
(x-3)^2 - (x-3) -2 =0
The working out should be
Let u= x-3
Therefore:
u^2 - u -2 =0
I then factorise to
(u-1)(u+2)
Therefore
u=1 or u=-2
But since u= x-3
And that's what I get up to before the book and I have problems.
it says x= 5 or x=2
I say x=4 or x=1
Which is correct and why?
