Newtons method fails you mean ?

Discontinous, un-differeintable, x-value not close enough to root. ?

Do you mean how far off it is? You can only do that when you've got the exact value. (unless they ask you to compare the accuracy of like 1 application with 3).

thanks:)
i've only heard of those sorta questions for simpsons/trapezoidal rule, in where u find the exact value and approximation and then find the percentage error. :)

hmm...ok so i didnt word my question well:p

ok, say you have one root, @.

using netwon's method, you estimate a root, #.

find the accuracy when compared to the actual root, @.

hope that makes some sense

are you sure it is (1 - #/@)*100. i just asked my friend and he said it was just (#/@)*100...

it is for using trapeziodal rule, not newtons :p
