Ext1 is scaled exactly the same for both 4U and 3U people except for 4U people it counts as 2units for UAI purposes.

if you ask this in the UAI/HSC Marks - Technical Arcana
you will probably get a better answer as lazarus is more likely to answer it

No, it doesn't any more, but as underthesun said, it did in 2001.

And also in 2002. Our chemistry teacher was reading off the scalings of courses in 2002, and extension 1 was slightly higher for ext 2 students.

Your chemistry teacher is a complete nutter, because there was only one set of statistics printed for Extension 1 students in 2002 and it included both candidatures. :p

I quote from the 2002 report of the Technical Committee on Scaling (p9):

Combined courses
As the Board had placed Standard and Advanced English raw marks on a common scale, these courses were combined and scaled as a single course. Mathematics Extension 1 was scaled as a single course and is reported as a single course in this report. The three Distinction courses were also combined and scaled as one course.
(underline emphasis added)
The 'bonus' scaling received by Extension 2 students in 2001 was a one-off occurrence resulting from the misapplication of certain scaling procedures.

The old LazSeeker program was based on the 2001 HSC, and hence includes the 'quirk'.

When submitting assessment marks for Extension 1 to the Board, your school includes marks from both Extension 1 and Extension 2 students.

Something just hit me: if Ext1 4UC was scaled separately, with only the 4u canditure, wouldn't that mean that the '01 4u students get 4 units of 'crazy 4u scaling'?

Ayup...

In fact, the scaled mean for Ext1 4UC (45.0) was higher (!) than the scaled mean for Ext2 (43.9).

I actually know of a guy who accumulated Ext2 in 2002 so that his Ext1 mark in 2001 would be rescaled as though he were an Ext2 student.
