By external, do you mean outside of bankstown, or by correspondence?

Edit: i see what you mean.

MK said that its via correspondence. You buy a text book and they give you a time line, you do assignments and i assume there's an exam.

I'm doing an external unit this semester.

They send out the unit outline with a cd which contains all the reading materials you will need through the semester. The outline tells you what readings need to be done each week (although I've found that I've hardly done the readings).

You need to submit the assignments generally through snail mail. And theres usually an external workshop duing the mid semester break.

But policing units may be different.

Hmm thanks,

Capt, There was talk of MK having a talk to everyone about the Professional Units on offer etc. But thats as far as it got.

Cape, Policing prob wont get as organised to have everything on CD lol. How do they handle assessments taken in by snail mail and like knowing it on time etc?

Seems good in theory not having the extra tuts etc to attend but I bet I'll need a regular kick up the ass to keep focused.

The snail mail system works by:

if the assignment is due on Friday, it must be in the post by 5pm on Friday.

Its pretty reliable. My first assignment managed to get from Armidale to Sydney over the weekend. And it didn't get lost.
