De facto relationships have had legal recognition since 1984 and are still part of the umbrella of alternative family relationships, so I suppose it’s the same with same sex.

alternative family relationships are essentially a moot point now, unless you're referring to those that generally do not have a direct presumption of any sort of parental responsibility or right to time with the child, such as aunts, cousins etc., which they don't fall under anyway.

same sex marriages are treated in identical terms as heterosexual marriages under the family law act at this point. the de facto jurisdiction of the court is also engaged in the case of same sex relationships based on the same circumstances. the provisions essentially now apply identically.
