and it produces alot of noise at random

How old is the fan? Is it just an el'cheapo stock standard fan? Have you ever cleaned it before? Dust build up can slow your fan down. Some cheaper made ball bearing fans make more noise in extreme temperatures from vibrations.

What motherboard you got?

The ASUS ones have a 'qfan' technology thing which speeds up/slows down based on CPU usage, and is pretty stupid if you're using the computer.

What fan is it? Case or heatsink?

Most new motherboards have utilities which speed up or down the fan based on temperature, not CPU usage, including the Asus one. Your Gigabyte motherboard should have a similar program but I don't think that is the case.

If you do have this feature on your motherboard, you can turn it off in the BIOS. If it annoys you that much, you can always replace the fan.

hey if i turn off the feature, would my computer burn out as it cannot cope with the temperatures?

o u mean this?
smart fan: Automatically changes the fan speed of the cpu fan and north bridge fan according to the temperature and time difference. Smartly reduces PC noise (wtf? how does it) and power consumption.

lol thats what it says on the box :uhhuh:

Well, if you turn it off, it will be running at full speed all the time (in theory) as such it will make more noise then if its on and slowing the fan down.

Also in relation to putting a 120mm CPU fan in, they are pretty uncommon and expensive and don't fit on all motherboards (the Zalman CNPS7700 ALCU or CU is an example), you'd have more luck with a 92m one like the CNPS7000B ALCU or something along those lines.

When you turn "smart fan" features off, the computer just doesn't slow down the fan depending on the temperature. Rather it'll just constantly keep the fan at full speed. If its the starting and stopping of the fan making the noise then turning the feature off will get rid of some of that noise.
