Hello. I would appreciate it very much if you guys would take a minute or so to answer a few questions, and participate in this focus group.

My name is Ned Cooper, I'm a year 12 high school student and I’m doing my PIP project on the socialisation and influence of modernisation on youth gambling and its prevalence as an issue in metropolitan Sydney. This particular focus group is aimed at everyone, particularly those aged 10 to 17, not just from Sydney, as any views on the topics presented are entirely helpful. Thankyou.

The two qestions to debate are:
"To what extent do you view youth gambling as a social issue and what importance do you feel it proposes to
those in positions of authority (ie. Council, State Government) when it comes to decision-making to attack the issue."

Secondly:

"What factors (ie. parents, technology, radio/tv competitions) would you feel are most important in introducing and involving youths in the world of gambling and increasing their likelihood to become problem gamblers and do you feel the ability to access gambling is easier and the overall gambling culture more prevalent in society than the last generation (say from 40-20 years ago) and what effect do you feel this has on today's youth"

Thankyou so so much, I know they're long questions but I feel they will be interesting to yourselves in thinking abut the issue and you involvement in the issue.

havent got any replies so if the two long questions are too overwhelming then you can just answer the first

What extent do you view youth gambling as a social issue?

and;

How important do you think youth gambling is to those in authority (ie. government) who make decisions about how to fix it?

1. Youth gambling is a big issue, I mean, if adult gambling is bad then gambling by youths is worse tenfold.

2. While it does pose a big issue in the community and to those affected, I personally don't think the authorities really care for it much.
