Like lots of you, I'm thinking about doing combined law, so I was wondering if everyone doing or thinking about doing a law course could put why they're doing it. Eg. What kind of area of law like commercial or criminal do you want to get into, and can you describe what that area of law entails ?

Thanks everyone...

I'm doing B Commerce/ LLB...

I did it because I like it...I've always liked the study of law so it was appropriate that I chose the course. I've done two introductory law subjects last semester and finally doing something substantive this session..Contract law. From my short experience, law is quite difficult, it involves a lot of theory and being able to apply that rule of law to real life issues. Contracts is especially hard because it is fairly content driven and at times confusing...(bhey, i'm only in my first year..:p)

You do a large variety of different types of law at uni...from torts, contracts, criminal, public/private law..I think the decision of which law to specialise in comes at a later date. In your 4th year, you will be able to choose a few electives. These might invlove topics such as media law, international ..etc...

If I do get to specialise in something Id like to do criminal because its actually exciting. Everything else looks boring...:p

natstar is very right.. I love law it interests me im not doing it for the money after i finish my degree im doing it because i like it! like many high pay jobs you have to work long hours and you actually got to love what you do!

I did one law subject this semester and the majority either loved it or hated it..the people who hated it never came to lectures and tutorials the ones who did would come and engage in discussion..i think it depends.

When i start graduate law im going to go into commercial law its very interesting..even though some people say Contracts is boring i find it very interesting!

You probably went into a lot more detail than I did but I found Contract Law to be pretty interesting and definitely not hard. It is quite hard to remember all the cases though (I didn't effectively do that:p):).

Wouldn't something more to do with Civil Law complement your Commerce degree more:)?

1) Contracts is so hard it's not funny.
Or maybe I'm so dumb it's not funny...?

2) Yes, contracts would probably be exceptional. But I hate contracts remember. :)

I don't find it hard at all, but as I said you probably go into more depth than I did. To see the stupid this that I did, have a read of this:vcross:!

What about Tort Law, Agency (if that is a separate specialisation), Consumer Protection (I suppose that that comes under Contract Law though wouldn't it):)?

We have a different subject for Torts.
Apparently they overlap so we've done a little bit on torts out of contracts as well.
Most of the ''important'' subjects are taught as core...torts, contracts, criminal, evidence, public/private type laws..(constitutional)
