hey!
i ordered the practise questions for gamsat (even though im not doing it for like 3yrs) anyway..it says you only require HSC physics..which i did..but i can't get my head around this question(s).
please help!!

P.s..i have reason to beleive question 7 is wrong..so help me out there too

Just so you know, the NSW standard of high school sciences is significantly lower than interstate.

i assume the question also assumes 4-unit maths?

No it doesn't look like it. This question could easily be answered by someone who got say a credit in my semester 1 physics subject. I got 50 though, so don't look at me.

well whats the answer meant to be?...cos i think Q7 might be C, i think i remembered reading something lik that in my HSC physics textbook once...but i might be wrong...


but far out...i never thoguht the gamsat would be that hard....umat looks so easy compared to it.

qn 7 is C as the mechanical energy remains the same ie. at the top 0 kinetic with X GPE, whereas at the bottom we have 0 GPE and Xkinetic energy or something like that

the next part isn't too hard, most of the stuff is irrelevant
GPE= mgh =0.05kg*10ms^-2*0.1m=5.0X10^-2J
the GPE above is the energy at the top, R
at the bottom at point T, we can say it's approximately 2cm off the ground
so the decrease in GPE is 80% (ball drops 8cm)
so GPE=0.8*5.0X10^-2 = 4.0X10^-2J
so answer to 8 is B

not too hard, just requires some thinking
