cystic fibrosis( i think, can't remember), the use of virus to fix up faulty genes inside body... the virus "attacks" a "normal" cell and incorportate its rna/dna with the cell, so that the cell can function properly by producin the needed enzyme...

yeah, with CF they get the patients to inhale 10 trillion viral particles with a CF repair gene. theoretically, the particles were supposed to insert their rna core into the normal cells, and thus the cells would reproduce the repair gene. however, although they found approx 100 copies of the new repair gene per cell, they couldnt tell if the cells were actually copying and using it.
with this type of CF gene therapy - it must be used in conjunction with physical therapy. also, there is only an improvement in pulminary function for the first three months, then it declines again.
