I got an ATAR of 50, chose to do Cert IV and a Diploma of Business at TAFE which took a year and got into UTS Business. TAFE is extremely cheap compared to colleges and other university programs, particularly if you receive centrelink payments ($50 per course). So just consider it before you apply for othr expensive pathway courses to university.

The Diploma of Business and Commerce is offered at both Westmead (UAC number 729505)and Quakers Hill (UAC number 729500) by UWSCollege.
Westmead campus is right near the Westmead railway station.

The 8 main subjects in the Diploma are the exactly same as 8 subjects in the UWS degree.

Some students have successfully applied to other universities on completion of the Diploma

In Sydney, and I don't want to go to Tasmania and do a Arts then transfer or something like that. I also don't have much money... I really want to do a bachelor in Economics at either Western Syd or Macquarie but my ATAR of 54 isn't high enough. Should I go through TAFE? Do the non-award program at Macquarie? Foundation/diploma in Western Syd? What's the most fastest and cheapest (in other words, the best) alternative into getting into university with an ATAR of 54?
As others in this thread have indicated you should think of going to UWSCollege

There is more information on the alternative thread http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=73329

If you want some more information maybe you could attend one of the information sessions

Repeat and study extremely hard this time. Aim for 90 that way if you miss you'll still hit 75, which will give you a substantial number of opportunities in terms of courses you may be admitted too.
90 is a very big jump from 54 but as the saying goes "Aim for the stars, even if you miss, you'll land on the moon"
I definitely do not recommended repeating year 12. Your time is better spent either TAFE-ing up and gaining vocational skills, or doing one of the college courses, where you are also getting some idea of how uni works, and can potentially hone your study skills before you get there, giving yourself a head start.

Can't you study at Open University Australia? They'll accept you for most courses regardless of your ATAR. In the UK, thousands of adults who wanted intellectual stimulation or qualifications but who have not had the necessary academic requirements to earn a spot in their local uni have earned their degrees this way through their version of OU. Through my reading of their site, OUA doesn't offer a Bachelor of Economics, but they do offer units that are Economics related that might be helpful to you in applying for a place at UWS or Macq later on. Have a read of it in the following links-

http://www.open.edu.au/public/home

http://www.open.edu.au/public/courses-and-units/bus/units-list-ugrd-eco

OUA is by distance education, though, but it won't really matter if you're by nature already an autodidact; some people prefer to study by themselves and actually perform better this way (many of history's greatest polymaths were autodidacts). It might also be longer since it is by distance, but you should read on more about this as I am not too sure about this matter.

Hi
Cheapest option is tafe, 1 year and you can get into a uni.
Other option is ACU which is a 59 atar for B.Commerce.. (you may get this)..

Expensive options are
- SCIBT at Macquarie for a diploma (around 16,000-24,000)... Not worth it in my opinion.. why? Well its expensive and is a diploma which can be done for a fraction of the cost at Tafe.

- UWS college (haven't heard of it before but I would assume it would be pricey).

You also won't want to travel far and if things are pricey already then I wouldn't consider studying in another state... think about the costs.

There are some courses at ACU with a cutoff of 60 (Eg, B ARTS) or even some UWS degrees
You may be able to scrape in some bonus points depending on your subjects?

Even if you do not want to do a B ARTS, if you do exceptionally well in all of your subjects within the first year, and achieve a high GPA, you may be able to transfer to a new course at another university after the one year.

Once you're in the university system, it is alot easier to transfer.

Regional la Trobe and CSU campuses have low cut offs. Even some slight higher cut off courses (60s) have an option where you do TAFE alongside uni to get entry.

Like I know someone went to CSU did TAFE alongside their degree to compensate for low ATAR.

I definitely veto the person who suggests repeating Yr 12. I advise against it strongly in your case. I'm actually pretty anti it in most cases heh.

oh man so many judgemental fuckwits like hayabusabosto "oh em gee can you like, totally, like get into a course with that? omg"
Seriously, there's way more to life than school and a fucking ATAR score which people judge you by, grow up and realise that school isn't everything.
tell any1 that u got a 54 atar and i can guarantee that they're secretly judging based on that
