Hi All,

could someone help break down this questions ?

Control over various aspects of a persons life is an issue of concern in both texts, but the treatment of control is reflective of the particular context of each text

How is the particular context of Orwell's and Lang's texts evident in influencing the treatment of control over the various aspects of a persons life?

the part that i personally find confusing is the "influencing the treatment of control" section of the question. What does this mean ??

Compare and contrast Orwell and Lang's methods in portraying control in their texts, while comparing and contrasting the different contexts under which the texts were written. The idea is to try and explain why Orwell and Lang's portrayals of control is similar and/or different by the similarities and/or differences in their historical, social and/or political contexts of their time.

This is something the markers expect you to do in every Module A essay, regardless of the question.

so as an example, would this be the way Orwell portrays control as absolute, the historical context being the totalitarian regime in Russia?

and the way he does portrays this in the book through;

- Mass Surveillance
- Though Police
- Manipulation of society
-Propoganda

Something like that, while simultaneously comparing how Lang portrays control in his text as attributed to his respective contexts.

Make sure you use techniques well, and analyse beyond the surface-level aspects to really do well.
