Umm...all you need is the obvious starting point - It allows those who once couldn't hear to hear again. How would society be changed by that? Look at what they once couldn't do and now what they could do..

communication allows soceity to function and let them distinguish the external environment without e.g. hearing it affects the reaction of the person..

giving them a delayed reaction or no reaction at all..

for example if you couldnt hear this is where the hearing aid or cochlear implant comes in you wouldnt be able to interpret verbal communication therefore being unable to understand a person

or another example if you couldnt hear a car coming from behind you, you'd probably get run over..

if it a a essay type type question

in your answer talk about the development of the device
how it affects an individual
the pros and cons
then summarise the effect that it can do in the long run to the individual
helping the individual to communicate to everyone else.. os that what your asking?
