Gather, process and present secondary information to discuss how shortcomings in available communication technology lead to an increased knowledge of the properties of materials with particular reference to the invention of the transistor.

i hav no idea where to start, nor do i even get the questions.. any helP???

thanxs

This is in the topic 'From Ideas to Implementations'. This was a question in this years CSSA trial HSC exam.

Basically traditional technology used in communication, such as vacuum tubes were inadequate due to them not being efficient so something else was needed, that being the transistor

basically that the size of conventional communication beofre the transistor was reletivly large. The discovery of silicon which resulted in the formation of the transistor allowed a decrease in size for modern technology (microchips)

Size was not the only and most important issue though. Quite often in exams they say to give disadvantages other than size difference.
