Discuss Pauli’s suggestion of the existence of the neutrino and relate it to the need to account for the energy distribution of electrons emitted in beta decay

I understand a majority (if not all) of Quanta to Quarks, but have significant trouble with this one. I got 19/25 in my trial exam for this section, lost 2 marks silly mistakes on a graph, and 3 marks from this question - I don't get it... Please help?

Scientists noticed that the electrons emitted during beta- decay had varying kinetic energies. Since many of these electrons had less than their predicted maximum kinetic energy, this violated the law of conservation of energy. Pauli proposed that another particle was emitted during beta decay that carried away this discrepancy energy: the neutrino (in beta+ decay) and the anti-neutrino (in beta- decay). Pauli proposed that this neutrino was massless and chargeless, much like a proton, but also invisible, making it very hard to detect experimentally.
