Help with playing files (1 Viewer)

So I have this legal movie I purchased:

everytime i go to play it (either thru BS player or windows media) it just comes up as no sound and coloured bars across the screen.

How do I fix it?

I would do a print screen of it but the screen goes black cuz its a moving image..


ANY IDEAS??

so anyways i got Gspot...
and found the file and put it thru Gspot...

And now im lost as to how to dload the code i need to play the file..

It says "AVI draw" and" MJPEG decompresser" should be capable of playing it...

so do i search for that?

no, it's a codec. a codec is a collection of files you install into your computer which allows your media player to decode the video file in order to play it properly.

if your computer does not have a codec which corresponds to the codec that was used to encode the video file, your computer will not be able to play it (to varying extents).

people who make the video encode it (create the file) with codec a.

people who want to watch the video must have codec a in their computer to decode the video.

Ok cool... well im getting somewhere now I think.. the coloureed bars are gone now i jus have a black screen! so maybe i need to dload somehin else....

maybe i really have dloaded 1 1/2hrs of nothing

cuz i think its.avi

its werid though cuz other .avi files play on my bs player but not this one..

not all .avi files use the same codec.

hrm, so not even ffdshow works. well, next step i would take would be to download the k-lite codec pack. or some other codec pack.
