im doing e-biz at macq this yr and i kinda need help with my timetable etc..i've only startd reading my handbook today, so im a bit lost atm :)

ok so heres so far what i dont understand..

1) in the handboook, ebiz is broken up into 3parts..3 study patterns, one is ebiz tech, ebiz multimedia, annd ebiz management.., i choose one of the study patterns right and choose my subjects from there?

2) depending on the study pattern, there is like 8 core subjects to choose from..i have to do ALL of them in the yr right? so does that mean i choosse 12 credit ponits worth of subjects for this semester from the list , and the other 12 credit points for the other semester ,true?

3) Since i wana trasnfer from ebiz to commerce ASAP, im tryin to avoid doing computer subjects..and imhoping to do ECON110 etc , but problem is i did genreal maths for hsc (got HSC mark of 94) and the pre-req for econ is 2unit mayths or something..so i was hoping to fit MATH 123/ or 130 in somehwer ein my timetable..this is possible right? ( even tho math 123/130 isnt on my given subject list)

so if i choose MATH123/130 does that mean the maths subject is inlcuded in my "ebiz study"?or in other words, i can not choose the computer related core subjects and do maths subject instead? or do i have to do ALL the core subjects no matter what?
Or does it mean MATH123/130 is another course i study, together with ebiz, menaing more work etc?

4) Assuiming i choose math123/130, i would have no trouble gettin into ECON right? since im doing the 2 subs simultaneously?/

5)And whats the deal with the elcetives? is there a list i can choose from?

thx a lot ppl, sorry if the questions are kind adumb..but im so confused atm :)

1. yes
2. yes, depending on the unit, they are offered on different semesters or soemtimes thruout the whole year.
3. you should be able to do math130 in first semester. but double check that with someone else.
4. since math123/130 is a pre-req, it must be done BEFORE you do ECON110. you would have to do ECON110 next year since it isn't offered in second semester.
5. you can pick electives from almost anywhere from the uni, but most faculties have an 'approved' elective list where you should choose your electives from.

how sure are u on this one? cause in hte text book ECON and MATH123/126 acts as a co-requistie , meaning i can do it as long as i do it at the same time?

oh yeah sorry. i didn't read it properly. it says ECON110 is a coreq with MATH123-136. so i guess you are allowed to do them both in first semester!!

as i understand it, you have to do your core subjects to get your chosen degree name. Eg BCIS has certain subjects you must do to qualify for that name to be written on your degree, where as a BSc has no core subjects so you're free to choose.

so, as i see it, you dont have to enrol in your core subjects straight away, you just have to get them done sometime within the 10-12 years you have if you want to graduate with that degree. i could be wrong though, so check with someone in the know (student enquiry service).

electives are just subjects you choose to do if you have spare credit points to fill up. ie im doing a vanilla BSc which has no core subjects hence every subject i do is an elective (more or less). to get my degree i just have to do x amount of credit points at 200 level, 300 level in relevant subjects and so on. some subjects require you to be in certain degrees and/or meet other requirements, but more or less you can do anything. so like in my first semester there were 3 subjects (9 cp's) i had to do to meet the pre req requirements of later subjects, which left me 1 subject (3 cp's) free to choose. i think i did phil or something worthy :p

if youve got 12 cp's a semester you dont need to do anything else. you can do as many or as few credit points a semester as you want, though more than 12 (14?) you have to get approval and less than 9 (?) you're considered part time.

oh ok right..
thing is i dont wanna get a ebiz degreee haha, i wanna just get my ass into commerce ASAP

yeh, isnt that kinda dodgy but..
i mean, does that mean i can enrol in a course with the lowest uai cut off and do all commerce subjects and then transfer without touching any of my core subjects..

then why need a high uai in the first place then? the wonders of macq..haha

i wish usyd/unsw was like this :p

i don't understand the whole thing. but all degrees have some sort of a core... or they should. when you enrol in the degree you have to do the core for that degree. and then if you have credit points left over you can choose things for interest / to complement

ok what doe said was right, but i am not sure about the part of doing electives first, and the the cores at the end (or in the case of transfer, never). i really doubt if that is possible.

im doing a BSc with a computing major - i dont have any cores, i just have certain levels of credit points i need to reach (eg 18 credit points at 300 level or above that includes 9cp's from units in COMP300 - COMP351). so if i did COMP300, COMP301, COMP302, i could then do say PHIL300, SOC300 and LAW300 if i met the pre-requisites (which i wouldnt) to get the other 9 credit points at 300 level and get my BSc.

after you get your academic approval, noone will ever check your timetable/subject selection unless you ask. the guys that put in your subjects when you enrol only care about prerequisites.
