HELP!!
I am doing a biology assignment on oxygen saturation and other things to do with blood but i dont understand what oxygen saturation is. Could someone please help me.

O2 saturation is the point at which haemoglobin is saturated by oxygen (or % of haemoglobin saturated with oxygen) - it's what you read off an pulse oximetry machine (normal range = 95% - 99%).

"Oxygen can be affected by changes in temperature pH, and PaCO2 (partial pressure of Co2 in arterial blood). When the PaPO2 falls below (partial pressure of O2 in arterial blood) falls below 60 mm Hg, there is a large drop in oxygen saturation".
The haemoglobin has 4 attatchment sites for the O2 molecule to bind. I was taught if a patient is saturating at 99/100% then the haemoglobin is carrying 4 O2 molecules.

the dp asks for technologies... so better remember at least 2...

pulse oximetry is one,
i also remembered abg (arterial blood gas analysis), capnometer...
