Australia was scared because communism appeared as a monolithic confrontation that threatened Australia. Thus, the govt. used propaganda to depict the evil in communism, attempted to outlaw the communist party, etc.
Aust was divided on the issue of conscription and involvement. Led to refugee problem...etc etc
