How Do I study for IPT? (1 Viewer)

In all of my courses, I have a pretty good idea how to study.

I look at the syllabus, understand key concepts and add some facts and stuff to solidify my understanding.

For example: In modern history, A syllabus point is the Fall of the Weimar Republic. Therefore, I look at the social, economic and political turmoil...as well as understand key ideas such as the depression, the role of the army and the conflicting political ideologies.

However, I find that this method does not apply to the IPT course.

I find that the syllabus points in IPT encompass so much information and we are tested on very specific ideas.

For example,

Looking at the 2010 HSC exam. Of the first 20 multiple choice question, I found that I had completely no idea of 5 of them. Therefore, I have already (potentially) lost 5 marks because I do not recognise the questions.

The most frustrating thing is that I do recognize the ideas, just not the specifics.

For example:

Question 6:
The owner/operator of a retail store is designing a database to manage stock/sales within the workplace. Initially she designs the solution on a spreadsheet prior to developing the information system using a Database Management System.
Which development approach would be most appropriate?
(A) Outsource (B) Prototyping (C) Structured (D) Traditional

For this question, I guessed B (correct answer), but only because it was the most familiar answer. I cannot recall what a structured or traditional development approach are, and therefore was limited to only A and B.

Another example:

Question 8:
What is a term for the screens and reports produced from stored database data?
(A) Views (B) Vistas (C) Visions (D) Vertices

I had absolutely no idea for this question. I guessed B, for pretty much no reason. The correct answer is A.

Last Example:

Question 16:
Jim project manager has provided a feasibility report.
has hired a project team to build a new information system for his business. The
Using a traditional system of development approach, which of the following does Jim need to consider next?
(A) How installation of hardware and software will occur (B) How the specifications for the design will be developed (C) How the staff will be trained and the system will be tested (D) How the new system will help the business achieve its purpose

As stated above, I have no idea what a traditional system of development approach is. Therefore, this answer was based purely on guesswork and logic.

I immediately ruled out answers C and D because they seem to be things that should come much later, and much earlier in development. I figured that answer A was suggesting implementation, and that too must come later, so I decided the answer must be B. I was correct.

Despite being correct for several of these questions, It feels horrible that I am so fucking uncertain. I have no problems with my humanity subjects (because even though some such as modern do have multiple choice questions) they are based on sources. The answers to those questions are right in front of me and derived from source analysis and logic.

IPT questions, however, are based on specific knowledge that has been attained from the course. There is a wide range of things to be tested on, and although I will not go back and re-learn the things that I struggled with on this exam, I have no doubt that the 2011 HSC will include aspects which I do not know.

Any advice is appreciated.

IPT is probably the easiest subject in the HSC, it is even more easier if you spend alot of time on the computer.

I am in year 11 and can do most of the HSC Exam (Probably due to me being a computer addict).

IPT isn't subjective so if you think about it logically you should be able to get the answer right. I would try to simplify the question then cross out the wrong answers in MC.

No, IPT is not the easiest subject in the HSC. If you think it is go off and get a state rank & then I'll accept that. Just because you spend a lot of time on the computer it does not necessarily mean that it makes it easier. It depends what you do on the computer & whether you understand it or not.

You could be spending a lot of time on the computer watching porn. Would that really make IPT easier for you?

Most year 11's can do the HSC exam but you won't be able to answer all the questions & gain full marks for each as you haven't learnt everything that is required to write a band 6 standard answer.

Fakermaker, I suggest you grab the Sam Davis textbook & make notes according to the syllabus dot points. It seems as though there are some gaps in your knowledge. Try & make notes based on questions you have trouble with, go over them with your teacher & try to apply them to other scenarios.

I suggest you get a copy of the syllabus and make notes against the dot points. Sam's textbook is a great reference but is very indepth.

eh, most of the subject is basic logical thinking and is very easy, providing you have listened all year round and done your homework. Should be no reason why you can't get a band 6.
