A scaled mark of 50/100 should be equally as difficult to obtain as the same scaled mark in any other course.

It's important we distinguish between scaled and aligned marks.
I have no idea what raw mark (/120) will align to a 50/100, but as A I said a scaled mark of 50 is equally attainable in any course since scaling already accounts for the quality of the candidature in each course.

turramurra high...2004

my sister got 73/120 in that and hsc mark of 93.

only 3.63% get under 50/100....

so they probably get at least less than 20/120.

Was it a more difficult paper than the 2005 CSSA or SGS papers?
73/120 in the trial and an HSC mark of 93 - Turramurra must have had a difficult exam or your sister improved a lot between her trial and HSC exam.

Hmm...top in Shanghai and 97/120 - it must have been a hard test. Either that or he just made about 33 careless errors. China produces the best maths students in the world and yet he didn't get 120/120...something must be wrong there  :p

Btw. do you have a copy of the Turramurra High 2004 paper?

If it's no trouble, do you think you could post up Q1-7? If it's inconvenient then don't worry, but I'm just curious as to how I'd go in the first 7 questions. If that guy who got 97/120 was working to his full potential then there's no doubt that getting full marks in the first 6 questions alone would get you 95+ in the HSC exam. If the first 7 are relatively easy, then I'm sure 95-100/105 wouldn't be far-fetched.
