hello
i recieved my notifcation for my biology assessment, does anyone have any information on these:
1.Describe the Watson and crick DNA model, including nucleotide composition, pairing, and bonding.
2. Watson, Francis Crick, Rosalind Franklin, and Maurice Wilkins were important scientists in determining the structure of DNA. With reference to their work, discuss the role of collaboration and effective communication in scientific research.

:)

Nucleotide pairing and bonding

  • Guanine pairs with cytosine (G-C) and adenine pairs with thymine (A-T), these bases pair together due to the size of each complementary nitrogenous base. A pyrimidine (C and T) base will always pair with a purine base (A and G).
Watson and crick also predicted that the bonds between the two paired bases had a weak hydrogen bond allowing the DNA to spilt and replicate, whereas the backbone to the base have a very strong phosphodiester bond that require more energy to be broken

  • James Watson:
He suggested the helical nature of DNA using cardboard shapes to piece together the 3D model
Watson + Crick also suggested the purine bases (Adenine and Guanine) paired up with the pyrimidine bases (Thymine and Cytosine)
This conclusion arose from the quantitative info they found for these bases
  • Francis Crick:
Studied how DNA functioned in cells + researched the way how the message contained within DNA is translated into action in the cell
