Thanks thats a good start. Im doing Emma/Clueless, king Lear and Frontline.
I'm doing the same electives
Emma/Clueless always take into consideration the contexts and mention how the contexts have changed but the story is still the same
look at themes like:
- marriage and sexuality
- gender roles
- transport
- materialism
- religion
then remember that the medium has been transformed... Emma - novel typical of that time period and suitable - long detailed novel- women with lots of spare time --
typical woman's book
clueless- 90 min film, fast, suits time dependent 20th century
King Lear -- Pain in the ass play...
lear's tragic flaws and self realisation
ALWAYS MENTION
SUBPLOT
gloucester mirroring lear
role of fool -- voice of truth and often wisdom
TAKE NOT OF THE QUESTION.... often directed at the how and the different productions that have been performed... study a coupleof productions positives and negatives and HOW they represented the text
Frontline...
now a couple of episodes well
study suppl material! that will give you bonus marks....
I did an essay without supp mat for 1/2 yearlies and still got about 11 but with supp material I could have got 13/14
Hope that helps... always match up quotes to themes and remember what module the text comes under cause often people totally forget that and don't mention it when that is the whole purpose of the essay
English is a subject that tactic will get you marks in GOOD LUCK!
