HSCers- How's the situation??/ Last Minute Advice (1 Viewer)

Tips for HSC (very random, don't know what i'm sayin')
1.http://homepages.tig.com.au/~gep/economics.htm (useless glossary???)

2.http://zeus.as.edu.au/intranet/Standards/Economics/ (sample papers w/ answers and responses)

3. Practice essays on big topics. They usually use the same question over and over but change the wording.
-Introduction defines the key word.
-one paragraph per theme. Explain each them in detail and the importance and impact it has.
-Conclusion just sums up and finnishes it off.
PLAN BEFORE YOU WRITE. Organise your paragraphs first will ya?
(Warning: your hands will tire out!!)

4. In exams, take 20-30 minutes for multiple choice.

5. If you don't know the answer, try your best and make a good attempt.

6.Practice papers, essay questions blah blah.

7. When calculating, be aware of the (-) minus sign if it is in deficit.

20-30minutes on multiple choice is too long.

I usually take about 10 minutes. They are easy marks and if you know your stuff (which you should) you should pick up an easy 18-20 marks in 10 minutes.

You need to concentrate on the other sections where it may take whole paragraphs of writing to get just one extra mark

Balance of Good and services figures for August was released today.

Its currently in $1.6bn defecit and worsening.....

what is the foreign debt and liability figure and the percentage of GDP?

they order in which you do your exam is important

i did it in this way: write essay plans, complete S/A, write essays then do MC

do it in a way that suits you but think of this cos not everyone is suited to doing it the way its set out (i.e getting stumped by a single MC and panicking etc etc)

I find it easiest to do it in the order the exam is presented in.

It builds up your confidence slowly, increasing the difficulty......it helps.

Also on many occasions there may be something in the Multiple Choice than can help you in your Essay or SHort Answer....so thats usually why i do it first.
Its easy to change a M/C answer if another section helps you in it, but you cant really change around an essay response having found something in M/c at the end which invalidates your points in the essay.....

definitely all subjects, do in order. Especially maths . There are people i know who did paper one english backwards for the trial... they didn't finish. it's all about building momentum, the first marks are easier to get than the last ones.

for english i do it backwards, leaving the most time for section 1.

i think that helps as u do the essay which u kinda remember and creative when ur mind is still kinda fresh.

usually have 50min for section 1

For Eco, I aim for:
- MC = 10 mins (+ a possible 5 if I don't know a few which I go back to)
- Short Answer = 45 mins
- Extended Response = 1hr each

As with all exams (and particularly with maths), leave anything you don't know straight away and come back to it later.

Good point. Why work backwards?
The first questions have 'easy to get' marks.
