I accidentally withdrew from my uni course (1 Viewer)

So I am 3rd year, I decided to take a semester off to work. My marks so far have been credit-distinction.

But I didn't realize I had to apply for leave before taking off a semester, so they kicked me out of the course.

I called them up, and they told me to send in a letter, so I did. I will hear from them in roughly 5 days but right now I am scared as hell.

If I am kicked out of my degree, it would mean that I lose 2 years studying.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Not personally, but I'm sure they've encountered this situation before and have measures in place to fix the issue.

Didnt you ask for the possible outcomes (on what would happen after you sent your letter?)

You would still have your 'credits' either way - the modules you completed

Yes I did, but they said they couldn't guarantee anything.
