I'm doing poetry for my prescribed text - we had no choice there.

For my related texts, last term I did a poem and a film.

Will having poetry for your prescribed text and poetry in a related text lose me marks? (for doubling up on a text form) I've been told by my teacher that the BOS used to care about that but not so much these days (although the marking centre would know). However, I asked a teacher from another school and said in the HSC exam the marker could mark me down for not using a variety of textual forms, showing sophistication or something like that.

Anyone got any ideas and views here? All help is appreciated.

It's generally not a good idea if you want great contrast to show literary differences.

If all you did was poems, then while you may not necessarily lose marks, it will be more difficult to gain them. You must use a variety of evidence to support your analysis. Using different texts types just makes this easier.

thanks for the comments.

my school isn't marking me down (in fact i did very well rank wise and mark wise in the first assessment, which was the essay), however in the hsc i guess i'd better use two different text types for my related texts (even though they may only ask for one ORT but just in case).

the only problem is that changing my related texts will in turn change the majority of my essay, as i will need a revised thesis...

on another note, anyone got any ideas for related texts themed around how society makes individuals feel they belong (or not) - an example would be themed on homelessness. any actually names of texts anyone?
