Feminism is a similar ideology.
Compare and contrast how the author represents the feministic ideals throughout the text.
Already im thinking
characterisation (With the lead role of Orlando, contrast with Swain),
context (1600- modern day Britain in Orlando contrast with modern day Australia),
authorial motive (Potter is in a sense both adding and subtracting from Woolf's feminist critique in order to show just how menial the feminist movement has ended up proving to be, contrast with Williamson who is, more than anything else providing both a social and more importantly literary critique with regards to feminism.
irony (Potter deters from Woolf's narrative when she depicts Orlandos offspring as a girl instead of a boy, showing how far we have come as a feminist wary society.. pfffft. Yeah right. Contrast with the irony in Swains own feminist/multiculturalism/etc-ism despite his own derogatory dealings with females throughout the play)
symbolism The glass roof within the modern day setting of Orlando, symbolising the lack of female integrity in high power executive positions in the workplace, the deterrence from the natural course of events as Orlando rescues the "prince charming" Chalmerdine after he falls off his horse, the progression of Orlando from male to female etc etc etc....
Erm, with respect to feminism, be sure to read the newspaper article assessment on Orlando (contained in the notes i posted), especially the concluding part which discusses how Potter leaves open the question of progress with respect to the feminist movement.
Then i would try to do similar sorts of things with differing ideologies, like post-structuralism, post-modernism (in both a societal and literary sense) etc. There are a lot more. Search for "contemporary literary theory" or something similar and youll be sure to find the endless number of idologies and literary criticisms out there.
Sorry about the grammer. Im in a hurry.
