impacts of dry cell, button cell etc.. (1 Viewer)

do we really need to know A LOT on this?
i only have about 2 main points on each (environmental impact, cost & practicality, impact on society)
is that enough? or could they ask an extedned response?

and do we need to know these impacts for only the dry cell? (cause according to my notes that's all i have )

or do we need to know for the galvanic and button cell too?

i think they could as an extended response, since there are quite a few areas which can be covered, but it i shard to find a heap of info on this. just think, 1 mark for each of the sections = 4 mark question already, so any q on this topic will be relatively med to large, but there are so many areas to cover that it is ok

i think we only need one out of dry and lead acid, and one from the others. but the only prob is, i have seen them ask multiple choice qs on specific batteries ( i can't remember if it was a past hsc though, or just a trial) (e.g. i have learn the dry cell, but they have asked a q on the lead acid). i don't think they should really be able to do that.

I think if they asked, it'd be worth 8.
1 for identidying the battery
1 for correct equations
2 for assesing/evaluating or whatever it is
multiplyed by 2 (4 marks for each battery).

yeah that wouldn't be a bad question to knock 8 marks off with, but maybe they would be picky

yep. if anyone has the revise chem core in a month book there is a pretty good summary in there.

its suppose to be an extended response as the word "evaluate" indicates.

its a 7 marker in the 2001 hsc exam where they only asked about its: chemistry and impact on society, because if they asked the whole thing they would have to make it more than 7 marks which is not possible in the chemistry hsc exam.

based on the 2001 exam question, to gain full marks you would need to know:
2 bits of information on chemistry ie structure,
2 bits of information on impact on society,
and the redox chemical equations of the two cells,
oh and the name of the other cell you chosed will gain you 1 mark.

so 2 main points on each chemistry, environmental impact, cost & practicality, impact on society is enough. provided that you know the equations and evaluate (make a judgement on it).
