How important is trials to your overall internal ranks? Right now I am sitting below where I want to be mainly for SOR II, Bio, and Math Ext1 (band 5 range based on HSC ninja). For example, I am rank 13/50-something in bio but I need to be top 8 (waiting for AT3 results). I am about 40/130 in SOR due to unfavorable results last term (waiting for AT3 results), but I need to be top 20. For math ext1, I think my hopes of an E4 are cooked since my ranks are fried, but I want to at least get a high E3. I want to get a 97 ATAR but I feel so behind. Can I turn things around in trials and how many rankings does it seem reasonable to move up for each?

Yes, I think so. I've heard trials are what solidify rankings, and also, it's important to focus on the fact that externals will have a HUGE impact on your marks, so it's totally not over at all. Trials weigh more (even though there are 100 marks), and is a good time to gain some marks over those that may have higher rankings above you. Don't think your goals are out of reach. Just keep trying! It's not too late and you're not behind. Best of luck :)

Do you have weightings for your trial exams? At my school, all trials are worth 30%, which is pretty significant but is also similar to a lot of half-yearly exam weightings. You could definitely turn things around if you rank well in trials, especially if the rankings are very close.

Btw you don't need to get an all-rounder for a 97 ATAR, I think you could even get it without any band 6s, so don't worry too much

As an English teacher my students knew the fact that is still true is that the trials ( I can only speak for English and Mod Hist - although I believe its true for all ) THE TRIALS SHOULD BE HARDER THAN THE HSC . Thats the intention
