Hey All,

I am looking at doing a Bachelor of Business and Commerce at UWS preferably majoring in Accounting. If anyone can answer any of these questions it would be much appreciated.

1. Does prior learning, through TVET in accounting increase my chances of getting into UWS, especially if my UAI isnt at the required level?
2. Does my prior learning mean I will have to do less for the degree? (Because the things we did at Tafe were very basic and I am unsure whether they have any value)
3. If I go into a Bachelor of Arts at UWS (Bankstown) would I be able to transfer (with good marks) to Campbelttown, then to the Commerce (Accounting) degree?
4. Does anyone know if the Bachelor of Business and Commerce, majoring in Accounting get professional recognition eg CPA or CA?

1. no. did you do a cert II in acct procedures? UWS accepts credit for cert IV and above. Increasing your chances? if you put that as a prt of your application to UAC, it might help. I dunno.

2. as above, you can only get credit for cert IV and above. I did a CERT II in IT and thougth i could get credit for Intro to IT [unit] but they guys said only cert IV and above which pissed me off, however i got a HD for it without studying so it helped me in the long run.

3. Yes. The Gauranteed Internal Course Transfer Scheme [i love this scheme, i am in the process of it right now] allows transfers after doing 4 units and attaining a better than credit average i.e. gpa >5.01. So if oyu work hard and get good marks, you are allowed to transfer.

4. I dont know that. sorry.

Thanks Natstar & klh, your help has been invaluable :)

I think I will greatly consider doing B Business (Applied Finance) and then transferring to B Business (Accounting).

to get a CPA/CA, you need to do 13 required units that is only in the B Business(Accounting) degree. MAjors can count towards getting a CPA but you would need to do extra units.
So wat TheOne123 said.

hey the thing is klh, i contacted CPA and it said it doesnt matter, u still can get CPA with B Bus and Com but having fulfiled the requirements of completing the units that CPA need you to do. and i found out its achieveable. But while UWS dont certify that, who shud i believe, shud i risk it?

what was the question? uhhhh
the majors in B B&C can help you go onto getting a CPA or CA but you would have to do an extra degree MPA from my questiosn to my lecturer, and she said do an MPA [Master Practising Accountant] which is the requirements for getting a CPA/CA and the majors you did in B B&C can go fro credit in them.

Just for ur info.
If you do choose to do a business degree ( i dunno if u have checked out the unis hand book yet)

1st year accounting units:
1st semester
Statistics for Business
Accounting Reports and Decisions
Introduction to Business Law

Choose- Introductory Economics OR do both Microeconomics & Macroeconomics

2nd Semester
Financial Accounting Applications
Management Accounting Fundamentals
Choose between Management Foundations OR Marketing Principles
Elective.

Many business degree 1st year subject have these too.
See
Applied Finance

Marketing

just to name 2
Thanksyou all for the help.

I checked online and I believe B Business (Applied Finance) suits me as it has some similar units to B Business (Accounting), is at CAmpbelltown UWS and the UAI is suitable, even after considering some inflation.
