Interfaith Dialogue

Dialogue between different faiths to explore common areas and differences with the aim of fostering understanding and tolerance

Examples:

 Representatives from different religions sometimes make joint public statements on important issues.

 Representatives of various religions cooperated in the organisation of the Interfaith Chapel at the Sydney Olympic Games.

 Councils of Christians and Jews have been operating in New South Wales and Victoria since the 1980s to promote such principles as understanding of each other's religion and removal of the causes of racial and religious conflict.

 The World Council of Churches, with which the National Council of Churches in Australia is affiliated, has vigorously promoted inter-faith dialogue and has recently organised dialogues between Christians and Hindus (on religious extremism in India); Christians and Muslims (on human rights); Christians, Jews and Muslims (on Jerusalem); and Christians and Buddhists.
The Macquarie SOR textbook actually has some good stuff on this if you can get access to it (Not the one for thr current course which comes out next month but the one for the SOR course that has just finished.

You could also check out my Biki entry (http://www.boredofstudies.org/wiki/...itiatives.2C_eg_in_times_of_crisis_or_tragedy) for the old course which has some stuff on it as well.

well two examples I used for the hsc was
1) the national council of christians and jews http://ccjaustralia.org/en/
2) the hindu council of australia http://www.hinducouncil.com.au/interfaith_activities.html

You should proabaly out line and contrast the aims and achievements of both groups withing your response. Most interfaith dialouge is used to bring together various beliefs in an attempt to promote understanding and tolerance. However also consider how interfaith groups may alos provide common / united responses to social unrest for occasisions such as the crunulla violnce for example.

hope that helps
