i recently acquired a second-hand gateway PC, which has an internal modem. i formatted it and everything, but now i don't know how to reinstall the drivers for it. i have the driver CDs and everything, and i've tried going to add new hardware and stuff, but it didn't work, so what should i do?

Go to the Device Manger under System in the Control Panel. Are there any unknown devices listed? If there are, try and reinstall the driver for the unknown device with the modem driver CD.

nah there are no unknown devices, and also theres nothing listed under "modem" in device manager. if i go to add new hardware and choose "have disk", i can choose the drivers but then it asks which port i want to use with the modem, but there's nothing to select
