Hi, so I really should have already decided on my monologue by now, but I can't think of anything that I stick with. I've only seen one 6-8 published monologue, but I know that I wouldn't be able to do it well. I'm trying to use a musical to base my monologue on, but I can never choose just one musical. So should I keep the published one as a backup, even though I can't do it well, or do I just forget about it? Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a musical that I could use, or any ideas of how I could write a monologue form a musical, it would be greatly appreciated.

There's thousands of monologues out there that would fit the 6-8 minute time from, don't just stick with the only one you've found. Try reading some books of plays: ask your teacher, I'm sure they can give you some ideas.

Musicals probably aren't the best way to go, as most of the character development is done through the songs, and that's something you don't have the time to cover in a 6-8 minute monologue. However, if you're determined to do a musical, perhaps try something a little less overdone. Some options:

Those are still moderately mainstream, but lesser so than things like Rent or Chicago.
