Just wondering but is it possible to study any HSC/prelim courses outside of school (mainly maths of any level, sciences or humanities)?

I think it is, I know someone who wasn't permitted to do 4U at school but she did it out of school... I don't know the process though, sorry

There's either TAFE or Distance Education

How do you apply for tafe and which tafe(s) provide specifically which subject(s)?

I don't think distance education is worth it

It only works if you are not enrolled in a school at all (whether public or private). Also, it doesn't have any information regarding the sciences. Only maths and humanities

It only has info about Maths 3u and 4u. Not so much anything regarding the sciences (phys, chem or bio). Is it possible for my friend (he dropped out of accelerated 2u this) because his school forced him to, mainly because he was getting really badly for all his prelim 2u tests to sit accelerated maths (hsc 2u) to do accelerated maths outside of school at Bankstown TAFE even though he's been dropped from accelerated maths at school?

At TAFE, they do 2u maths in 1 year. Some students in my 2u maths class last year did 2u maths in year 11 but were strongly encouraged by their schools not to continue it in year 12 due to poor results. That is why they decided to do 2u maths at TAFE. With biology, chemistry and physics - it is also done in 1 year.

Do you mean 1 year covering the whole Prelim course+HSC course, 1 year covering the whole Prelim course or one year covering the whole HSC course? Most schools usually spend 3 terms covering prelim content and then they would spend like another 3 terms covering HSC stuff before actual trials and then when it's trials, it's pretty much revision and then like an extra topic or 2

Do TAFEs usually open on Saturdays and Sundays?

My friend told me that the head teacher of maths at his school said that the board of studies allows only A LEVELED STUDENTS. Anything lower than an A means you're kicked out

I mean 1 year covering the preliminary and HSC course. The preliminary course is done in 1 term, and the HSC course is done in 2 terms. There is no half-yearly exam but there is a trial exam. I am not sure about other courses but no HSC courses run over the weekend.

What the hell. That seems way too short. How are they going to cover it in that much depth?

For the sciences. do they even do practicals at TAFE?

If that's too short then you can choose to do it over 2 years but many students have done subjects in 1 year and did very well.

Oh well, I guess it is better do it in 1 year than 2 since you can save more time (unless you want to learn it in proper depth)

If you want to learn it in depth, you can do it in your own time. Remember that TAFE is an adult learning environment.

I suggest you call up TAFE and arrange an interview. No you cannot miss out by a term and join the class.

Yes you can accelerate subjects if your school doesn't offer it.

Lol. Why would tafe be full of adults doing the hsc and just rushing through the content? How many would there be in a class?

I never said they rushed through the content, I said that TAFE is an adult learning environment. The teachers are more than happy to help you if you do the work, put in the effort and do not expect to be spoon fed information.

Yes TAFE costs money. It cost $700 for me, $240 is the concession fee.

Yes you can drop legal studies at school and pick up biology at TAFE.

$700 is really expensive.
