Is using notebooks a bad idea for subjects like legal and modern history? (1 Viewer)

Some friends and I were discussing school stuff the other day and we got on to the topic of them buying binders for their subjects (they have already done year 11 - I'm going into year 11), and they told me that their legal and modern binder was so filled of stuff and now I'm thinking I should use a binder instead of a exercise book, which I bought.
I don't know what I should do? What have others who have done these two subjects found good?

Sorry - like a folder, you know like a ring binder?

I'm not sure about Modern History, but when I did Legal my teacher used to provide tonnes of printed pages of cases and media articles. With that being said, it's not too bad if you store all the sheets you receive in a folder while doing your work in a notebook.
