Since updating to 4.7.1 my CD drive has refused to recognise any disks inserted into the drive. Called a friend in distress, who said that this is a common issue as 4.7.1 replaces a file with one of its own, which can cause errors and to uninstall/reinstall it. Did, and still nothing (didn't even work when it was uninstalled completely), and while I have the disk that contains 4.7.0 (came with iPod) I am unable to reinstall it due to the fact that my CD drive is shot.

Any ideas?

(if it helps, here's my CD drive diagnostic from iTunes:

"Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
iTunes 4.7.1.30
CD Driver 2.0.4.0
CD Driver DLL 2.0.2.0
LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0), Cdr4_xp (6.0.0.171),
UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.0),
Video Driver: Mobility M4 Mobility M4 Display Adapter

Virtual drives can sometimes interfere with reading and writing CDs in iTunes. If this is a virtual drive and you are having problems with other drives, try uninstalling the virtual CD application."

Note: I do not use a virtual drive, so that warning is defunct. It's the "IDE\CdRomSAMSUNG_CDRW/DVD_SN-308B________________U005____ Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380." that's the issue, considering that that's the SAMSUNG is the DVD drive, not the actual CD drive. That drive, a TEAC CD-224E Standard CD-Rom drive, is not working at all (though it worked perfectly prior to installing 4.7.1), regardless of the type of disk inserted into it.)

With iTunes uninstalled. Try and get Windows to reinstall drivers for your CD ROM by going to the Device Manager (for WinXP: Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager). From the list delete your CD ROM (select and press delete). When you reboot, Windows will automatically detect the CD ROM and reinstall drivers for it.

See how that goes.

Is the drive identified as working in Device Manager? (without iTunes installed)

What happens when you try and open a CD in Windows?
