Yikes.

I did my King Lear essay on Friday (It was an in-class assessment). I asked my teacher the day beforehand of some quick last minute pointers of what to write about.

l wrote about the Gods, basic plot, good and evil, madness and sanity and seeing and not seeing.

I wrote breifly on each of these things, but l'm not 100% l did a good job. We had to write 750-1000 words in 50mins and l managed 700 words approx.

I'm not sure if l just wrote crap, so can anyone tell me if l did the write thing in writing about what l did? Our class has just finished the book and she didn't want us to write it as if we were sitting the hsc exam, but as if it was 6 months beforehand. She didn't want us to know everything or to quote specifically.

I also used the quote "As flies to wanton boys are to the gods, they kill us for their sport" to help me with the gods section.

Oh right, that might help huh?

It was something about "though the suffering Lear went through, he made self discovery" The it asked if this was a positive thing.

Also it asked to make references to other characters in the play.

Sorry but thats all l can remember.

Lear was my weakest text. I failed my first essay on it. So yeah, I'm not the best one to give advice on the subject. But it seems you demonstrated that you understand the plot and included a lot of the themes, considering you've only just finished the book, I'd say that's a good thing.

Thanks Sam!

I hate shakespeare....King Lear is a good plot, but its the way he writes things l can't understand. If l get a pass or even 15/20 l'll be cheering. I asked everyone else in the class what they did and some said they did similar to me, but some didn't, thats why l was a bit worried, even though thats what the teacher told me to do.

I hate in class essays, you can't concentrate and l always write really crappy the first time around, then l fix it up, instead of writing a really great one first time around.

Othello wans't my best text last year, but l still passed it. Hopefully its the same this year.

If it's what the teacher told you to do, then I'm not sure why you're worrying

Well, l suck at essay writing.

For the practise essay we did on another topic l got 13/20, which isn't what l'd like.

I don't word my paragraphs right (she knows this and its trying to help me to start writing them properly). And sometimes l repeat myself a lot without knowing it.

I also crap on quite a bit. When l used to write essays l would put the facts, very bluntly. My teacher has told me to expand and explain a bit more to get my word count up (which l was also have trouble with). I told her that l felt like l was writing useless crap over and over again if l expanded.

Those are the same problems I had. I had trouble getting the word count up, and to do that I usually ended up repeating myself.

Wow, thats interesting! I thought l was the only one. Sometimes l wonder why l was even put into advanced. But then l look at the work Standard people do at my school and l remember why.
