These quotes are from "Big World" by Tim Winton.
Not sure which language techniques these quotes are classified in:
1."In the hot northern dusk, the world suddenly gets big around us, so big we just give in and watch"
2. "We fried. We're idiots of a different species but we are both bloody idiots
3. "I made him look brighter than he was and me a little dimmer"

Kinda hard because I don't know what you're trying to say? Unless you want to just find a technique then base your response on that if this is just a simple exercise? But in any case

In the hot northern dusk, the world suddenly gets big around us, so big we just give in and watch
You could say 'world' is a metaphor/symbolism for their problems, which causes them cease trying to enact their own paths and take on a more apathetic approach on life.

We fried. We're idiots of a different species but we are both bloody idiots.
Technically metaphor because they are not literally a different species, but this is pretty weak and not ideal. If you'd provide more context for all three of these excerpts then that would help.

I made him look brighter than he was and me a little dimmer.
You could say this symbolism/juxtaposition/contrast (pick one) reveals a deeper facet of their relationship in that the narrator feels inferior because..... well idk I haven't read this book lol do you have instructions from your teacher?
