i want to do my 1st preference and 2nd preference equally. the 1st one was a bit higher (very slightly) last year for its selection rank. if i get that one and then change my mind and want to do the 2nd preference, can I do the 2nd preference? both are unsw

as offers progress if i dont get my first 3 preferences will there be a chance to get them on the later rounds and how many rounds are there where do i check

So there are multiple rounds. If you get your first preference, then put your second preference first so you can receive an offer for the future rounds.

to add to the above, you typically do not have to accept/decline/defer an offer until later. So you can receive multiple offers and just leave them there usually, and decide later. Just remember to change your preferences between rounds.
