does anyone have a list of latin terms used in legal studies as well as their meanings?

i made one for prelim but can't seem to find it anymore >.< i compiled them from all over the place... so not all of them are in my text book (so far i've only been able to find 'obiter dicta' and 'prima facie').

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Mens Rea - Mental component of crime/intent
Actus Reus - physical component of crime
jus cogens - jigher (international) law, cannot be violated
prima facie - enough evidence to proceed with a case
ultra vires - beyond the power
unito caro - man and woman being "one flesh" after being married
ratio decidendi (spelling?) - part of a judgement that is not binding, comments made in passing
doli incapax - incapabale of evil (children)

Ratio decidendi is the reason and main opinion for the judgement
Obiter Dicta are the comments made in passing, and the opinion of the judge...

Just remember
ratio- reason
obiter - opinion

A few more-

res gestae -The rule of evidence that either party to a proceeding may introduce evidence that is not directly proof of a fact in issue, but is essential to proper understanding of facts.

res nullius - Property without an owner.

res integra - A new legal question for which there is no law or precedent.

compos mentis -of sound mind

certiorari - a preogative writ issued by a superior court in order to review the administrative decisions of a lower court. Is used for quashing original deciions on the grounds of denial of natural justice, jurisdictional error or error of law.

Some of these may be a bit beyond the syllabus, but they look sexy in an essay.

The terms I added were more in-depth information, expanding upon syllabus points. It is by no means necessary to learn them, but they are an effective tool for distinguishing yourself from other candidates.

ad hoc - not with a settled base (like the ICC which is thrown together when it is needed rather than being a permant body like our domestic courts are.)
