As a supplementary text for my English folio (due on Monday), I have chosen the attached Leunig cartoon. One of the points I must write about is context - 'what personal, social, hustorical and cultural conditions may have influenced the composer or shaped the meaning of the text?'

I have no idea what to write, as information on Michael Leunig is bare minimum, and I don't even know when this particular cartoon was done.

Help?

If you don't know when its done, they you may be a little stuffed for it. Find a date (or even a month) and just look at the major social issues at that time. Was it election time, was it right after the children overboard scandal, was it right after Sept. 11th? If you can't find Leunig's intention due to the context, assign one that you think will work.

yeah the net should be able to give you a rough approximation. Otherwise do some research and find an approximate "bluff" time period... Seriously it's not as tho they are going to dig up the archives and attempt to find it... Please use the latter suggestion as a "NOTHING ELSE IS WORKING" method.

Personal - This refers to Leunigs own life and personal ideologies. What has influenced him to draw in the the particular way he does? Which themes does he deal with and why are these themes relevant to him personally?

Social - How are the themes he deals with a reflection on the societal constructs of popular media today? This pertains to both his style and themes expressed and how these themes reflect on the society Leunig finds himself analysing.

Historical - What is the nature of popular media? How has it progressed?

Cultural - How are Leunig's depictions reflective of the typicalised Australian culture (if they are)?

Since i dont know the cartoon i can tbe more specific. If you post it i will try to help more.

and i would also add.

Literary context - How Leunig falls under the umbrella of post-modernism and new critical theory.

Oh sorry, I forgot to actually attach the cartoon heh. Thanks alot for your help guys.

My response to 'context' only has to be a few sentences at most, as there are 8 questions in total and it isn't a very important one at all. The word limit for each text is 500 words, and I need to use about 300-350 of those on questions 6, 7, and 8.

So anything relevent I can get would do.
