We have two LG sets at home, and have no problems with those. Both should be good brands, but I know LG has made the drives in computers for some time, and should have reliable TV/VCR/DVD combo drives.

Panasonic manufacture the most reliable consumer electronics in the world; they have the lowest rate of returned/faulty goods. I would say, in my experiance, they are a bit ahead of LG in terms of product quality, ease of use, design etc. That said, LG are rather good too, you really can't go wrong with either player.
