Oh hi guys.
I'm currently doing BMedSc/BForensicBiotech part time by distance thru CSU.
I've just been offered a place in Cert 3 Aged Care + a job, as long as I am willing to transfer to a nursing degree.
The nursing degree would be 1 year on campus full time and then the last two years full time by distance ed.
Pro is; I can claim study expenses on tax (which I cannot do currently), plus I can get paid to work in the industry. I'll also finish nursing before I finish Bmedsc
Con; have I just wasted two years at uni?

I think I would really enjoy nursing, obviously not in aged care I'm thinking more theatre and ED when I become registered, but gosh I'm torn

Its your choice but med sci/Forensic is better then nursing. As you said you have studied 2 years of your current course so thats a lot of money wasted. But if you need the cash and arent enjoying your current course then transfer. Its obvious though that medsci/forensic can get you much further the nursing and you might regrett the transfer years down.

Good luk in your decision.

Nursing has so much more career opportunity than your curent degree. And if you hate your current degree, theres no point in finishing it. I did 3 yrs of education before i did nursing and IM glad that i swapped over. Everyone kept telling me that i should complete the teaching degree but i didnt want to.

So go with your heart.

You can claim some things on your tax return, if they do relate to your job. if you werent working in nursing home, then you couldnt claim books etc but yeah

ER nursing as a grad is very competitive to get into coz everyone thinks its like it is on tv, but its not. Its very stressful, understaffed, and you get a lot of abuse and stuff, eg from mental patients and drug/grog affected pple. theatre is good if you can stand being all gowned up for like a few hrs and standing and not having a pee break for ages! I would faint working in the OT so eyah...plus you dont do a lot of nursing per say, its just standing there handing instruments to the doc

Mum is a Nurse Manager at a hospital out here, I've got a fairly good understanding of the system (plus I work for NSW Health).

It's not that I don't enjoy my current degree, I do, I just don't know whether I'd enjoy it as a career. I'm hoping to get some credits for subjects I've already done. The two Anat + Phys subjects I've done are more advanced than the ones offered in nursing, so I'm pretty sure I'll get credits, that already knocks half a semester off.

Not sure if I want to work in Aged Care as an AIN though, but I think I just need to get over it.

But thanks guys, I'll ring the uni tomorrow and see what they think.
