ok, i tried printscreen something in media player, but when i paste it in Paint, i can't cut out the object and drag it anywhere else, it just stays in the same position (ie in the same position as when i pushed printscreen)

it's hard to explain, just try it out yourself, take any media file, eg movie and printscreen and paste it in paint and try moving the picture around..

i really need help coz it's for my assessment :(

In windows media player go to tools>options

under performance

ull see a slider

for Video acceleration change it from full to none

then apply setting reset the player and try again, and when you're done just revert settings back

as soon as i can give reps, the first one will be heading your way =)

and also...is there a way to play a certain bit of the video clip, say for example in powerpoint without playing from the start?

well that i'm not sure however... what you could do is... Windows Movie Maker the latest one publicly downloadable from MS, is quite powerful you can import that video and just cut away all the sections u dont want and then re-save that to whatever media format movie maker has available. Give it a shot.
