well apparently we may be able to choose some units of study during the BSc(Adv) course that are listed in the handbook.

I think in BSc(adv) You get to choose some subjects which are also offered in med science, such as immunology, cell pathology, anatomy etc which are taught by the Uni's department of medicine

Nono, the science faculty enrolment guide 2005 specifies that "the faculty of medicine does not permit faculty of science students to enrol in medicine units of study unless they are enrolled in the BSc(Adv)/Medicine or BMedSc/Medicine degrees. (It's under "Taking Units of Study from other Faculties", about 3 pages from the end of the document).
