Mining pays good, but could someboyd hihglight the work conditions?

I wouldn't like to work on the field, and was wondering if anyone knew what your career prospects would be like if you just took a city/consulting job and didn't get on mine experience.

how long would a person stay on a mine?

a long time?

What are the salaries like? i heard 50g - 80g starting withouth postgrad study?

hey!!!!
do the degree i'm doing!!
it's civil eng/mining eng. i couldn't pick between the two, so i decided to do the two :)

it's 3.5 years of civil, followed by 2 years of mining.

there's a lot of prospects of getting a job in the mining industry once you've got a mining degree. UNSW and the mining industry, sort of have an agreement, that all the mining graduates that UNSW produces, they give their contacts to the mining industry people, and then you've basically got a job straight away - there's no problems with jobs, that's for sure.

and yes, starting salary is very high :)
but you also have to take into account, the moving away onto a mine site which has it's disadvantages too.
