you don't necessarily have to be good at all aspects of english (eg. using sophisticated expression, discussing techniques) but it definitely helps. theres less of an emphasis on expression in modern history and more of an emphasis on learning facts and incoporating them into a fluent argument.gcmk said:hi im gona be doing modern history in yr 11 just wondering if u have to be pretty good at english for modern history.... i heard theres ALOT of essays.... also how is modern history in general?
thanks~
no its pretty much exclusively essay writing/extended response. you won't have to do any speechs or anything as far as i know.kujah said:Is it just generally essay-writing, or are there more text-types that we will use in Mod. History? Speeches?
Of course being good and english comes in hand and helps as kc-ok-la explain in the HSC you will be doing about 4 essays and short answer responces so you need to be able to quickly formulate arguments, plan out what your going to write, know what you are writing and then write very quickly.gcmk said:hi im gona be doing modern history in yr 11 just wondering if u have to be pretty good at english for modern history.... i heard theres ALOT of essays.... also how is modern history in general?

Throughout the HSC course I had to do speeches, short answer responces and essays but yes the majority and especially in the HSC exam will be essays and short answer responce.Kujah said:Is it just generally essay-writing, or are there more text-types that we will use in Mod. History? Speeches?
Primarily essay-writing. Each school's assessment system is different, but it focuses on essays because that's most of what's in the exam. However, the syllabus also requires a speech, a source analysis and a couple of other things as part of internal assessment. Some of those assessments also have to be research-based.Kujah said:Is it just generally essay-writing, or are there more text-types that we will use in Mod. History? Speeches?
