Monohybrid, HELP! (1 Viewer)

Half yearlies are on Wednesday for BIO, and I'm stuck when it comes to monohybrid crosses!

Can somebody please help with this question?
- Identify the outcome of a monohybrid cross between homozygous violet flowered plants, and homozygous white flowered plants when violet is dominant. Write the genotypes of both parents.

NOW! The problem I've got is can I use a punnet square to work this out, or is that an entirely different thing?? I think what I'm trying to say is, can a male have two alleles, or can the male only be say, XwY-, where w stands for white...

Haha. Please help if you know what I'm on about, coz I dont.

Yes - you can use a punnett square for the question.


White flowered plant would be ww & violet would be VV

Anyway, the information here may be helpful too.

I don't think this question has anything to do with sex-linkage...so..

outcomes:

     |    V       V
-----|----------------
   v |  Vv     Vv
     |
     |
   v |  Vv      Vv
     |

therefore outcomes are all heterozygous (Vv) and are violet.

and parent genotypes are VV (violet) and vv (white)

All you need to do is identify what the parent genotypes are, then use a punnet square and you'll get the answer.

I suspect you know how to do this already, just don't stress, you'll be fine.

Between bluesky and DistantCube, you've got all the info you need, however, I would suggest that you use a letter of the alphabet that looks quite different from lowercase recessive to uppercase dominant, as especially when you're in a hurry writing, Pp, Ww, and Vv can look similar.
