OKay so i have come to the decision: i am moving out of home. I want to be as prepared as possible as i still will be compleating yr11 (this term) and year 12. SO i realise i need to be smart; i know i can earn 250 a week and still study resonably comfortably but i have two options;
1) Pay rent for a room at a family firnds house $150 a week NOT including food. will work 3 evenings + 2 days (maybe less)
2) W ork for friends as live in nanny (1 day+ 1 evening etra work) would come to arrangemnet with her about hours, whats involoved.

From your/friends experience or opinions what do you think is the best choice and do you have any tips when it comes to moving out and balancing study???

PLease help :)

i cant put it any better but say you are going to struggle even if you have the toughest skin and strongest mind to cope with the situation you are about to put yourself through.

the first thing i'd do is go to centrelink and find out what your options are with financial support and what they can offer you in terms of youth allowance or rent allowances, im not particularly seasoned on the types of payments that may/are available to you.

have a back up plan, somewhere and someone to fall you, as i assume you are doing casual work, hence you cannot be guarenteed the $250 that you stated.

you will need to budget aswell, like budget really well, because you will not have alot of money to live on let alone have any left over for going out etc.

how do you plan on getting to work / school / elsewhere? public transport you may say but you may need a back up so its a possibility that you may need to get a car, which will be even more draining on your limited cash.

just hope im shedding some light on your situation.

good luck with whatever you decide to do.

in response to those options of where to stay id go with option 1, because it will be degrading for you to be cleaning up after your friend and thier family and it will crush your self esteem. i believe you will be better off not putting yourself through a situation like that.

in saying that i believe you should put a equal share into household work and it should not constitute as a concession on you living there.

there should also be a level ground, depending on how welcoming the family is, you should be able to participate in their meals and the like and id say $150 is a decent amount. but if you will be buying your own food, $150 is not appropriate in my opinion $50-$100 is very reasonable for someone in your situation.

depending on where you're living, i think you should be able to find a share house where the rent is less than $150. that is too much, my rent is $110 atm and my two bedroom flat is quite comfortable. before i moved here, i paid $80 and lived in a share house half an hour from the city.

just saying there are options.

also look into youth allowance (even though they have given me, supporting myself in a foreign city, jack shit) because it's people like you the system is for.

there are ways to keep costs down, shop at markets, budget budget budget, and remember that you can find a rental that is cheaper further away from the city but close to a dependable train line.

best of luck, i think you are very brave for taking this step and i hope it works out.

I would recommend that you ask your friend if you could pay board, which includes all your bills and food, most places are around $150-180 so give it a shot. Coz come exam times it will be stressful for you.

I wouldnt move out of home until you had finished yr 12, unles syou have a reason such as cant live at home. in that case, go to Centrelink and tell them that you need to move out of home coz of conflict or whatever and get the independence rate.

But then again if you get $250 a wk anyway you'll soon find that your income back will decrease and you get less payment or even no payment at all.

Good luck!
