Well here would be your best bet however I read that Microsoft will probably literally lose users because their MAC version is extremely limited, like you said, no winks, display pics, backgrounds, etc.

You will need to download a 3rd party client to support those functions. The following clients support multiple messenging services (MSN AIM Yahoo etc) all in the one program. In my experiance, MSN messenger for mac is highly buggy and outdated. Also, these 3rd party programs are better looking, more intuitive, more efficient and don't have ads like MSN messenger.

Here we go from mess.be

Microsoft, bridge the gap or lose users!
dwergs says:

Can you imagine MSN Messenger without MSN Display Pictures, Custom Emoticons, games, webcam and audio?

"Sure," you'll answer, "just look at MSN Web Messenger!". But did you know that another Messenger client is actually even worse off?

After recompiling the Feature Comparison Table , Robert Thomson has come to the shocking conclusion that MSN Web Messenger actually has more features and a higher percentage of functionality than MSN Messenger for Mac 4.0.1, and that the online IM application comes really close to the expected functionality percentage of Microsoft .NET Messenger 5 for Mac.

This is unacceptable and discriminating towards Mac users. That's why several petitions, striving for equality between Mac and Windows versions of MSN Messenger, have originated in the Mac community. And their grand total of signatures is approaching 20000. So, did you sign already? And if yes, why don't you pass the link on to your friends, buddies and blog readers asking them to do the same?

Even if you're a Windows users and don't have any Mac user on your contact list, just be altruistic for one minute and sign the petition!

He's saying: get one of these other programs if you want a 'sort' of MSN Messenger that can have display pictures. These programs can also connect to ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, etc.
Click the links, check out what you like and download one.

Another one you may want to try is:
http://amsn.sourceforge.net/
If you dont wanna read the stuff about the software patents - just click the link right at the bottom of that first page.

Although, its primarily designed for Linux - there is also a download avalible for Mac. It's quite good, and I used it when I was using my Linux box as a desktop machine - I'll be putting it on my PowerBook when I get it.

The only different thing I've heard about aMSN is that you can't send any files with it. Apart from that, it seems to have all the bells and whistles.
